The Fairmont Neighbourhood

This area is a mix of residential and industrial construction.  Situated west of Highbury Avenue and north of the Thames River, the Fairmont area straddles Hale to the east of Highbury and Hamilton and Gore roads to the north of the river.  The residential mix is an established neighbourhood that is part of the 1961 annexation, composed mostly of small ranches, bungalows and story and a half style properties.  Generally the houses are smaller than average, but are located on large lots.  With prices that are slightly below the city average, combined with an extensive park network running through the middle of the area and easy access to the highways, this neighbourhood is often very attractive as starter homes for young families.

East Park Golf Gardens

The East Park Golf Gardens were founded in 1963.  It has grown rapidly ever since and has been an integral part of the London family entertainment scene.  In addition to it’s fine 18-hole executive golf course and driving range, East Park has added mini-golf, batting cages, waterslides, go-karts and picnic areas over the years.

In July 2000, East Park opened Intencity, it’s new indoor entertainment and educational centre, featuring a 40′ high rock climbing area, bumper cars, kid’s “soft play” jungle gym, video games and the licensed Intake Grill.  Intencity is suitable for birthday parties beginning from toddlers on up to adults.

Parks and Other Places of Interest

The Fairmont area is home to one of London’s premier park systems, the Kiwanis Park that travels up the length of both sides of Pottersburg Creek with an extensive network of paved trails, skateboard parks and children’s play equipment.  The area is also home to Fairmont Park and the Pottersburg FIDO leash free dog park.  The Bob Hayward Branch of the YMCA is located in this area offering a workout gym and other services.

Schools

Elementary schools in the area include Tweedsmuir Public School as well as St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School.

The area’s only secondary school is London Christian High.
