The Region of South London
Even though the north of London has enjoyed recent popularity and continues to be a desired place to live, in many way the south of London remains much more the heart of the city. It has mix of differing neighbourhoods, from among the oldest in the city in Old South to hot new areas of growth like the Wickerson, Riverbend, Talbot Village, Summerside, Copperfield and the Andover development.
There is a much greater price diversity in the South as compared with the North of the city. There is a lot of good entry level housing as well as some of the most expensive properties in the city and pretty much everything in between. The proximity to Highway 401 makes south end neighbourhoods attractive for those who commute to places like Cami in Ingersoll and Toyota in Woodstock.
Because London is a regional centre, the proximity to the highway makes the south end attractive for many retailers and services. It remains a popular location for automobile retailers as well as furniture stores. There is also a growing big box retailing centre popping up around the intersection of Wonderland and Southdale since the Wonderland Road exit was added to Highway 402. In addition to this, the south is home to the popular White Oaks Mall.
The south of the city enjoys many well integrated services and bus routes making life in this part of the city convenient with a high over all quality of life. Perhaps the jewel of the south end is its extensive network of parks including both Springbank Park in the southwest and the Westminster Ponds in the southeast.
